Use the new menu system in all applicable places.
More consideration is needed right now on whether the toolbars should
also have menu items, so they remain unchanged right now.

Remove functionally duplicate artist/genre values that were read from
a file.
This caused a indexer crash in 3.1.2 due to the switch to music sets,
which no longer made duplicate values group the song twice. This then
cascaded to a failure in song finalization, as it expects there to be
the same amount of artists/genres as raw artists/genres.
Fix a regression where the loading process will never stop on a no-op
refresh operation.
This was an oversight made in the redocumentation of the loading
process.
Further document the music indexing process.
It's so aggressively parallelized as to require some more extensive
comments to actually make it clear what's going on.
Recognize artists sort, albumartists sort, and album artists tags.
These are written by mediafile, so they are probably also written by
other software.
Do not hang when an error halts the discovery process.
This was an oversight with the previous band-aid fix regarding handling
errors in music loading. If something failed, the channels would not
close, resulting in the main loop consuming the channel hanging.
There's probably a deeper issue causing this in 3.1.2, but with this
fix I can actually start digging for it.
Fix an issue where an upwards nested scroll past the top of the queue

Use sets for all child music information.
Unlike parent information, which usually has an ordering derived from
file information, child music information more or less doesn't, and
will be consistently re-interpreted by the app to apply user-configured
sorts.
Use a Set when storing all song, album, artist, and genre information.
These all have no consistent ordering due to parallelization, and
should be communicated as such.
Sort song informtion in all MusicParent instances.
This is a temporary hack to band-aid music consistency between reloads,
as with the aggressive parallelization song order is no longer
consistent.
Fix a regression where partial ReplayGain adjustments missing an album
or track component would not be indexed.
This was an oversight made when moving adjustments to the cache, as the
nullability model of ReplayGain adjustments changed.

Use targetState whenever making decisions on whether a certain sheet
state change is valid.
This is mostly for stylistic consistency and has no effect on UX.
Only use fallbackToDestructiveMigration for all databases.
I thought you had to selectively enable downgrading as well, but
apparently that disables other destructive migrations. This was not
obvious at all and caused countless issues. Absolutely flooring.
Do not extract ReplayGain adjustments on the fly, instead doing them as
we go along.
This prevents an issue where the ReplayGain information would only be
applied a short period after playback start, which is heavily jarring.
Make UserLibrary return some kind of error indicator if something
fails.
I don't have the framework for how the app will display these errors
just yet.
Use a constant page limit of 5 instead of a dynamic page limit.
This was not being properly updated prior, and since the ViewPager
already clamps it, the limit does not really need to be based on the
tab size anyway.
Make it so that the DeviceLibrary constructor streams all song
information instead of building the library on completion.
This has no measurable effect on loading times, but does appear visibly
faster to the user since the loading process is no longer stuck on the
"Loading your music library" step.
Actually bother to make the way music is grouped consistent, based on:
- The first track for albums
- The earliest album for artists
- The first song for genres
Do not transfer the cache db between devices, drop it instead.
This is at best useless (timestamps and ids will be invalid) and at
worst actively detrimental (timestamps and ids are similar), so
better to reindex than try to read from the cache.

Fix an issue where disc headers would be at the top when no subtitle as
available.
I really thought that TextView.text would be null if I set it to null.
Instead it becomes an empty string, breaking the visbility change. Fix
it by just using the disc value.
Resolves#472.
Fix issues stemming from how ExoPlayer apparently doesn't send a
playWhenReady event after being stopped.
This ended up breaking AudioEffect integration and notification
posting. I really don't know why player.stop() doesn't do this.
Fix an issue where the playback sheet will suddenly become "stuck" when
playback ends, preventing back navigation or playing new tracks.
This is, once again, caused by bottom sheet insanity. It does not
expose the target state of a sheet at all when it's settling, making
Auxio believe that it has to repeatedly "fix" the state of a hiding
playback sheet and leading to those aforementioned issues.
Fix this by band-aiding it with yet a n o t h e r bottom sheet behavior
extension that exposes the target state. This will be eventually be
used in the whole bottom sheet flow, as it allows me to abort
in-progress sheet transitions, but I'm not going to rock the boat like
this in a patch release. Probably 3.2.0.
Resolves#464.
Shift the queue index backwards if the current song at the end of a
queue is removed.
Without this, the index becomes OOB and makes the queue be interpreted
as entirely empty when it actually isn't, which is compounded by a
remove-1 update intruction leading to a RecyclerView inconsistency
crash.
Fix redundant separator parsing obliterating loading performance.
If there are no separators configured, the parsing function would not
short-circuit and instead do a useless O(n) iteraton (including
escaping!), massively reducing performance.
Song build performance still isn't the best (blame intelligent
sorting), but it's definitely better now.
Fix a few problems with the current comparison algorithm:
1. It wasn't actually comparing the raw music information, only the
UIDs, which was redundant.
2. The comparison in the main music loading process occurred on the
main thread, which causes massive freeze-up issues.
Resolves#457.
Drop support for Lollipop and Marshmallow.
I legit cannot build for them anymore. There's some insane dependency
tangle between Kapt and Room that makes it impossible to use anything
BUT Java 17 (maybe Java 11). If I use Java 17 or Java 11, suddenly the
whole app crashes since Lollipop and Marshmallow only support some weird
Java 8/11 chimera abomination. This issue has persisted probably since
the move to Java 11, making it basically unusable anyway, so at this point
just cut the charade and officially drop support.
Split up the back gesture listeners into specific components.
These are still all used in MainFragment since I can't reliably set up
their priority correctly if they were used in their respective
fragments, but it should improve efficiency since most of these back
listeners don't need to be updated on every draw.
Use a real mdc drag handle on the queue sheet.
The accessibility functions won't even be enabled, but that
would need to be communicated in a special way anyway.
Fix a visual error where adding to queue would visually place items
next to the starting index rather than at the end.
This was a result of forgetting to update the Add instructions returned
by Queue.addToNext to return the end of the queue rather than the
current index, which completely broke the queue visual.
Resolves#435.
Log whenever a listener is added/removed.
This might make it easier to track concurrency issues stemming from
listener dispatch and addition occuring at the same time.
Unify corner radius and icon size configurations under a new sizing
property. This is largely driven by a need to remove the typical
half-width icon sizing, as it results in blurry playing indicators
in some cases. This also co-incides with a change of parent image
icon sizes to 32dp over 28dp.
Resolves#415.
Make the app UI properly handle album covers that are not 1:1, instead
of just cropping them.
This required switching to Coil's rounded corners transformation
outright so that the non-1:1 image can sit inside the CoverView in a
way that actually looks good
I'm pretty confident this will work, but there might be some edge cases
since coil's transformation is really finicky.
Resolves#355.
Turns out that useless code from ImageGroup prevented a seam from
appearing when the playing indicator was shown. Re-add that,
albeit a bit less hacky.
Refactor StyledImageView and ImageGroup into a new class called
CoverView.
This new view is more sensibly designed and should be capable of
handling non-square album covers when implemented.
Handle two edge cases identified with the playing indicator behavior:
1. When enqueing songs from another parent, the prior parent is still
indicates as "playing" when it kind-of isn't.
2. When playback is stopped, the parent is not reset, and thus will
still be indicated as "playing" after the song has disappeared. This
is rarer and should be resolved in other ways, but the solution to
1 also fixes this.
Resolves#380.
Group albums implicitly linked to an artist via the "artist" tag into
their own section called "Appears on".
This makes Auxio's artist model a bit more apparent to users.

Default tracks without a disc to a group called "No disc" instead of
disc 1.
This should reduce confusion on the user end, as it will make improper
taggings more apparent instead of simply degrading to a werid sort
ordering.

Fix a few issues with the tab migration:
1. It wasn't even being ran
2. It incorrectly updated the tabs by adding a playlist tab when it was
actually already present.
Move the music editing state to the toolbar.
This should be signifigantly clearer than prior, at the cost of it's
"universality" implying that renaming should be available when it
actually won't be.
Make the header information reflect changes in playlist composition as
the playlist is edited.
This should improve the editing experience to some extent.
Reduce the accepted datatype of extractors down to a list of songs,
moving the other datatypes to the UI layer.

This way, items that change in non-UID metadata are actually considered
different at runtime while UIDs can still persist the data in a stable

This is probably really stupid. But so is the other way.
Differentiate parents based on their song composition.
This way, it's less likely for an artist/genre/playlist image to get
"stuck" after a library change.

Add a real playlist naming dialog and UX flow.
This is a bit rough at the moment since theres a good amount of nuance
here. Should improve as the playlist implementation continues to grow
more fleshed out.
Unwind the picker abstraction into smaller dialog packages.
While this increases repetition, it will make the playlist dialog
implementations much less shoddy.
Re-add the tryAsync wrapper function to the loading process to properly
handle music loading errors.
Turns out there is basically no other way to properly do this except for
the insane exception -> Result -> exception hack.
Refactor the music name implementation to do the following:
1. Unify normal and sort names under a single datatype
2. Handle arbitrary-length digit strings
3. Ignore puncutation regardless of the intelligent sort
configuration, as it is trivially localizable.

Move everything over to the media3 library instead of ExoPlayer.
Media3 is worse in every way. It labels half of ExoPlayer as "unsafe"
because it thinks that it's garbage uwu "helpful" abstractions are
perfectly servicable when in reality they are a pile of garbage filled
with insane performance issues, race conditions, and a seeming lack
of awareness to the sheer absurdity of android's media APIs. It is
absolutely horrible, but ExoPlayer will stop being maintained soon
and I will have to move over for further maintenance.
Correctly bubble failures in the music loading process.
Do it the easy way and simply map to a result, then backl to an
exception. I need to actually just make it fully bubble event

Refactor the weird picker god module into specific sub-impls in
playback and a new navigation package.
I cannot keep this unified. The needs are too different among each
picker. Better to keep it separate, especially in preparation for
the playlist dialogs.
If the user clicks on the playback bar in any context, including the
queue view, open the playback panel.
This adds another means to closing the queue that does not involve
swiping.

Due to a sudden pivot to starting from repository backwards with
playlists, there were some half-baked changesets lying around that
I forgot to revert. Do that.
Add the boilerplate code for the playlist system.
Any functionality is runtime only and is not integrated in-app. Plan is
to build the UI scaffold first followed by the backing playlist.
Separate the header information into it's own adapter, and concatenate
it with the prior adapter.
This way, it can be updated separately without a jarring list update.
Broadcast the audiofx session when playing/pausing rather than starting
and stopping.
This is apparently the more correct way to do this.
Resolves#391.
Add fine-grained updates to the queue view.
Should do the following:
1. Make queue updates faster (no diff calculation)
2. Resolve some bugs regarding duplicate queue items.
3. Finally complete the new list framework.

Accidentally released a global state instance of the extractor. Now

Use dependency injection with Coil.
This allows me to use the coil-base artifact which should remove a bit
of superfluous dexcode, assuming dagger uses less. It probably doesn't.

Previously use was split among different components that could leverage
injection, and components that could not. This fully unifies them.
Fall back to TXXX:RELEASETYPE on ID3v2 if the more conventional
MusicBrainz tag cannot be found.
This should reduce confusion for people that might assume that the
vorbis convention for release types also applies to ID3v2.

Make sorting direction (ascending/descending) explicit in the UI and in
the code.
Instead of a boolean flag, two distinct "ascending" and "descending"
options are used instead. This should be much clearer.
Start injecting shared object instances.
This is not a 100% conversion, as certain portions of the code are not
really ready for 100% DI constructors just yet.
Split off "raw" music (RawSong, RawAlbum) from real music impls

Completely rework the detail list implementations so that resorting the
song list causes a replace operation instead of a diff operation.
This finally makes the list experience consistent across the app.
Switch to item decorations to manage header dividers.
This is much more reliable than encoding it in-data. Only cost comes in
that it forces me to backport yet another component since I still can't
update MDC after over half a year.
Redesign the header component to be more aligned with M3 guidelines.
This includes moving the divider to the top when reasonable, using a
smaller font size, and using a tinted coloration to separate itself
from the list contents.
Make list instructions generic in preparation for the detail list
update.
Detail views need their own instructions datatype, so this is meant to
allow that to be implemented without issue.
Split up the settings ui into four categories.
This should reduce the visual load on the user as Auxio continues to
accrue possible configuration options.

Add non-standard ARTISTS/ALBUMARTIST fields to reasonable places in the
ID3v2 and Vorbis parsers.
Turns out these are stupidly common when multi-artist information is
used in order to maximize player compatibility. More or less, TPE1 and
ARTIST will be filled in with delimited values, while ARTISTS will be
filled in with native multi-value information.
This is stupid and insane, but I want to prioritize a good out of box
experience without much user fiddling, so I may as well implement
these.
Currently, I'm only adding the non-standard fields that I know exist.
This doesn't include hypothetical but unencountered fields like
TXXX:ALBUMARTISTS.
Add the ability to play or shuffle a selection.
This finally allows "arbitrary" playback to be created from any
combination of songs/albums/artist/genres, rather than just from
pre-defined options.
Resolves#313.
Add tests for the relatively simple Music.UID and Raw data classes
(excluding Song.Raw).
This should make sure most of the grouping code works, making the
library tests theoretically much simpler.
Add library-change sanitization to the queue.
It is hard to describe how unbeliveably difficult this was. It's so
hard to wrap your head around this system and I really would have never
used it if it was not for ExoPlayer's insistence on it's busted
ShuffleOrder code.
Re-enabling state persistence should be easier following this.
Fix moving items with the new queue system.
This took a bit of thinking, but I think this is the correct way to
implement this in a future-proof manner.
Like the library package, move out tag information (Date/Album.Type)
into a separate package.
Date never really made sense as base-package information.

Turns out using isActive to indicate that the AudioProcessor is a no-op
is too unreliable due to how they are managed internally.
Instead, I really do just have to use a copy. Once again ExoPlayer
picks the most absurd possible design choices for no good reason.

Band-aid certain types of queue moves that will fail to cauase the
index to correct. Just do this by assuming all queue moves are swaps
and then forgetting about it.
I'll need to figure out how to "properly" do this eventually.

Implement a new heap-based queue system into the app.
Unlike the prior queue, this one no longer keeps one canonical queue
and then simply swaps between shuffled and ordered queues by
re-grabbing the song list currently being played. Instead, the same
"heap" of songs is used throughout, with only the way they are
interpreted changing.
This enables a bunch of near functionality that would not be possible
with the prior queue system, but is also really unstable and needs a
lot more testing.
Currently this commit disables state saving at the moment. It will be
re-enabled when the new queue can be reliably restored.
Make all list listeners operate on generic values.
Wanted to do this for awhile, but couldn't figure out how to get the
listener to work with sub-typed listeners until I learned what the in
keyword actually does. This removes a ton of type-checking boilerplate
that it's not even funny.
Fix a crash that would occur when trying to add music dirs without a
file manager to handle it.
Some users apparently disable the built-in file manager under the
assumption that the same intents will work with other file managers.
They do not, and so we need to handle that case and let the user know.
Band-aid a crash that would occur when the library is somehow
unavailable in the detail view. Now, if it's unavailable, the
app simple navigates away.
Not sure how this is happening, but I'd imagine it's some caching
shenanigans I need to fix by using volatile on any shared field.
I actually have no idea how to go about decoupling the other music
loading errors from the "No Music" case without a very jarring user
experience, so I'm not doing it for now.
Decouple DetailSong into two fields for the current song and current
properties.
Combining them was a technical decision that no longer makes sense,
and separating them makes life much easier.
Make indexer responses use Result instead of an arbitrary response
type.
This is part of a more general rework to move the "No music found"
screen from the home view to the individual home lists.
Add a button to reset the pre-amp to it's default setting.
This way, you don't have to specifically seek to the 0 dB value in the
dialog in order to reset it.
Refactor the internal tag management portion of MetadataExtractor into a
new "Tags" object that can now be re-used in the ReplayGain system.
This also does a minor rework to the ReplayGain object to make it
totally self-sufficient.
Split off parsing-related components from extractor into a new parsing
module.
A lot of these methods are used in non-extractor code, so it makes more
sense for them to not be part of the extractors.
The code that is really extractor-specific can remain within the
extractor files.
Rework some of the taped together ways context-dependent objects were
replied on in-app, such as removing redundant constructs and extremely
hacky lifecycle mechanisms.
Always scroll to the top of the queue list when the current song
changes.
This way, the user can see future items rather than past items.
In an ideal world, I would try to go to the center of the queue, but
it seems like the "average" scroll tends to settle at the top no
matter what I do, so whatever. There's also a slight in-accuracy
in what the app considers the "Top" of the queue, but that's considered
minimally detrimental given how much a QoL improvement this is.
Resolves#210.
When resolving the names of several artists or genres, use a localized
separator instead of a comma.
This makes list values more correct in other languages, if properly
translated.
Split off Dates and Date Ranges off into their own file.
The Music file was getting too big for it's own good, and the addition
of Date ranges makes splitting it off much easier.
Add support for albums to have a range of dates.
Often compilation albums will have Songs released in different months
or years, so it makes some sense to show a date range rather than just
the ealiest date.
The only point at which the earliest date is still shown is in the home
view's popup, as maxiumum dates in a date range are not sorted by, and
so showing it doesn't make sense.
Formalize how whitespace tags are handled.
The checks for blank tags and removal of trailing whitespace from tags
are now the same function, carefully used to prevent blank tags from
setting through.
More testing will need to be done in order to fully ensure this system
will work as intended.
Fix an issue where genres consisting only of whitespace crash the genre
parser, and thus the music loader.
Band-aid this by moving the trimming code out of splitEscaped and into
maybeParseSeparators. In a future version I'll need to figure out how I
want to handle these weird edge cases.
Move the music cache to the app storage.
This is actually long-term data, so it makes more sense to do app
storage where it's less likely to get mangled.
Drop item selections when navigating to another view.
This resolves issues that might occur if one were to navigate fast
enough to another view after selecting something. If I were to use a
unified toolbar, this wouldn't be needed, but that is a very far-flung
addition.
Strengthen Auxio-style UIDs.
These UIDs now leverage SHA-256 hashes with null values now writing
themselves as 0 in order to avoid possible message collissions from
other value arrangements.

Much of it's documentation has drifted from reality as changes were
made, this commit completely redoes the documentation in order to
fix that.
Redocument the detail, home, image, and list modules.

Add support for MP4 ReplayGain tags. These are usually under a `----`
atom with an iTunes domain and ReplayGain description. These are
mapped to an ID3v2 internal frame within ExoPlayer, which is why
Auxio did not support them, as it only expected Vorbis comments and
ID3v2 TXXX frames.
Resolves#292.
Remove childish wording/diatribes from the codebase that were added
when I was younger.
I'm an adult now. I have to make this repository at least somewhat
professional.
More miscellanious tweaks I can't categorize since I have no time.
It's mostly attempts at improving animation visuals an failing. Really
want to switch to material animations once I can finally get the things
working.
Animate the check mark and background change when a item is selected.
This produces a nicer UX overall. If possible, I'm planning to also
port this to the other indicators in ImageGroup, albeit doing that is
signifigantly harder.
Redefine the meaning of activation across the app to align with the SDK
documentation.
According to the documentation:
- Activation -> A permanent kind of selection initiated by the user.
This means playback states, item selection, etc.
- Selection -> A transient kind of selection that can be added or
removed without user input. This includes things such as playing
indicators.

Remove the about screen's reliance on the home data.
The home view's data can no longer be trusted now due to the "hide
collaborators" setting, so now the about screen uses statistics
derived from MusicStore itself. This also avoids constantly
resumming the duration when the UI is initially created.
Backport the code for full "Month + Year" dates to older versions with
the legacy Date API.
For the same of not missing bugs on newer devices, this is now what
will be used in Auxio.
Rework the music picker system to be a reactive, viewmodel-based system
instead of a janky UI system.
This should make it much easier to maintain and extend in the future.
Fix crashes occuring from -1 positions causing Slider to error out.
This is just fixed by band-aiding the UI, since I seemingly cannot
control these from the backend.
Handle errors from databases.
Either way, a crash from a database or a silent error will be equally
nightmarish to debug. May as well keep going if they fail.
Try to move multi-artist playback/navigation into a single function.
This function is really bad and is tacked onto the most convienent
location without much thought. I really wish to move this into the
ViewModel flow eventually, but I have no idea how to architecture
that. Oh well.
Show a list of artists that contain songs from a particular genre in
the genre UI.
This used to be in really early Auxio versions, but was intertwined
with some really stupid genre functionality that would include songs
from an entire artist for some reason. Since now albums can be shown
in several artist entires, it makes no sense now what artists can't
be given the same treatment.

Make artist images sort by count instead of by name.
I've recently added a few singles in my library that have been
cluttering the previous artist image algorithm with non-ideal
covers. Instead of sorting by name (Which was really an artifact
of the old MediaStore engine anyway), sort by the amount of songs
of each album instead, which hopefully should weight images less
towards singles and more towards albums (And especially albums
the user likes).

Add a setting to hide "collaborators", that is artists that do not show
up on any album artist tags.
This is mostly for my own use since I don't get use from useless
collaborator entries.
If a song/album date has a month value, show it in the UI.
This hopefully improves the date experience for more well-tagged
libraries. Due to date limitations however, it is limited to
Android O onwards for now.

Add caching of already-parsed tag data.
This greatly reduces loading times when the music library has not
changed. This completes the music loader in it's entirety now.
Resolves#207.
Redesign the icon entirely.
Since the next release is 3.0.0, may as well refresh the icon.
- This icon is actually unique and not a reskinned material icon, which
I feel will diffentiate Auxio even more.
- While unique, it also blends into the surrounding app icons a lot
better, especially regarding using stroke/corner sizes.
Re-add parsing by escaped separators.
Previously I removed it becaue the regex parsing was not being
cooperative. Turns out we really do have to write our own parser
code. Fun.
Add a toggle to control the IS_MUSIC=1 selector.
This is normally used to remove non-music like podcasts and ringtones,
however some people use Auxio was a general-purpose audio player for
these files, so this setting can be used to disable that selector and
load non-music.
Resolves#246.
Use plural variants of vorbis artist/album artist tags.
Some people add these tags to signal the artist makeup of a song
when a player supports multiple artists while still allowing less
sophisticated players to operate with single-artist tags.
Add support for MusicBrainz IDs (MBIDs) in both grouping and UID
creation.
This should help with very large libraries where artist names
collide, thus requiring differentiation through other means. It also
theoretically opens the door to fetch online metadata, however I don't
really care for that and it would violate the non-connectivity promise
of Auxio.
Resolves#202.
Add semi-complete support for multiple artists.
This changeset completely reworks the music linker to add the following
new behaviors:
1. Artists are now derived from both artist and album artist tags,
with them being linked to songs and albums respectively
2. Albums and songs can now have multiple artists that can be distinct
from eachother
3. Previous Genre picking infrastructure has been removed and replaced
with artist picking infrastructure. "Play from genre" has been retired
entirely.
This is a clean break to the previous artist model and may not work
with all libraries. Steps to migrate the music library will be added
to the changelog.
Resolves#195.
Combine validation into a new finalization routine that now
individually validates and in the future may finalize certain
fields that require linking to be properly created.
Keep changes when unshuffling and reshuffling the queue.
This quirk was a hold-over from the old queue system, and now it's
removed.
Note that sorting is still based on parent, and so sort orders might
remain somewhat wonky. I only see myself really tackling that come
gapless playback, as I have to remove that last vestige to get that
system working.
Add a dialog for picking a genre from several choices.
This basically completes multi-genre support in Auxio, save more
internal reworks.
Note that it is extremely likely that the "Play from genre" setting
will be removed soon. This feature has made me realize that such does
not many any real sense, as genres are more semantically similar to
playlists than artists or albums. This implementation only exists to
make multi-artist support an easy plug-and-play operation.
Resolves#201
Add support for compilation + live, compilation + remix,
and compilation + dj-mix release types.
This was not included due to the changes it required to the
parser. Turns out these changes are largely trivial if I do
more clever inlining.
Make UID structure dependent on the music mode.
This involves replacing the "tag" value with more structured fields and
appending the int code of the music mode to the UUID rather than making
it part of the UID's "tag". UIDs aren't quite a UUID, so this is
allowed.
Merge DisplayMode and PlaybackMode into a new class called MusicMode.
Both of these datatypes represented similar things, and thus it's much
easier to make them the same datatype. Moreover, it makes the
forthcoming addition of the music selector much easier if the same
datatype was tied to the representation of music.
This commit also moves around things around the project to be slightly
more coherent.
Also take the size of the music file into account when it is being
played.
This way, we could remove some situations where two files with the
same name get confused with eachother when opened.
Use CollationKey when sorting music instead of String isntances.
This makes sorting aware of accented characters while still preserving
speed. I would ideally want to extend this to the search view too, but
there is no contains command in CollationKey, so I must continue with
the normalization method there.
Instead of updating the notif every 50 songs, update it every 1.5s.
This is in preparation for automatic reloading, which will once again
make Indexed song updates EXTREMELY fast and would thus rate-limit the
notification if the previous system was used.
Phase out the dumb hack TaskGuard class in favor of yield.
For some reason, I was under the impression that yield was horribly
slow. It's not, I was just using it wrong. So now TaskGuard is no
longer needed.
Re-add MediaStore genre parsing to the init() step.
This time, to play along with the new abstraction, the query is done in
initialization and loaded into a map that is then used when populating
raw audio.
Refactor all Backend instances into a new package called extractor and
a new structure called "Layer".
Layers are no longer generalized into an interface. Instead, they build
on eachother in order to produce a correct output of raw songs.
One of these layers is a stub class to eventually implement caching.
This changeset also phases out the "Ignore MediaStore tags" setting, as
it is no longer needed.
Add a basic framework for user-customizeable separators.
This is designed to be extendable if needed, albeit the app will likely
only let the user choose between +, ;, /, &, and ,.
Add separator parsing back, albeit in a much different manner.
Now Auxio will try to parse by , ; / + and &. This will be disabled by
default in the future and available as a setting. When parsing by
separator, whitespace is also trimmed. This occurs nowhere else though,
as there is no demand.
Add support for ID3v2.4-style multi-value tags separated by a null
terminator.
This temporarily removes most other forms of separator parsing in the
app. My plan is to reunify it under a new separator setting that allows
the user to select how multi-value tags are separated in their library.
Separator parsing tends to be too destructive by default, so this tends
to be a good option overall.
This commit does require ExoPlayer to be forked once again to add
ID3v2.4 separator support.
Fix some mistakes with the UID hashing process.
Some more work needs to be done regarding formalizing the datatype
and tagtype fields. If anything, I may just collapse them into a
single "tag" field since they are only used for equality.
Alternatively, I could make them integers to increase efficiency.
Depends.
Completely rework the ID system to pave the way to MusicBrainz ID
support and greatly increase ID integrity in general.
This changeset removes the old ID field, an emulation of a polynomial
hash that was used in all items, and replaces it with a new type called
UID that is specific to Music. Other types just use plain equals now,
and most instances of "id" to check for equality in the app have either
been inlined into an equals override or removed outright.
The new UID format is as follows:
datatype/format:uuid
Datatype is a tag that is just the lowercase tag name. For example,
"song". Format is the program that created the UID. auxio will be an
md5 hash, and musicbrainz will the a musicbrainz ID extracted from a
file. UUID is the uuid itself.
This is much more reliable and extendable than the old ID format. This
will also be the last time I break compat with old ID formats. From now
on, a legacy UID field will not be included to enable backwards compat,
when the time comes for a breaking change.
Add some functions to eventually enable multi-parent playback.
PlaybackMode is still used in some places, however will steadily be
phased out hopefully.
Migrate the playback system to a reactive model where internalPlayer
is now the complete source of truth for the playback state.
This removes the observer pattern for positions and instead introduces
a new State datatype that allows consumers to reactively calculate
where the position probably is.
This is actually really great for efficiency and state coherency, and
is really what I was trying to aim for with previous (failed) reworks
to the playback system. There's probably some bugs, but way less than
the ground-up rewrites I tried before.
This also lays the groundwork for gapless playback, as the internal
player framework is now completely capable of having more functionality
borged into it.
Fix a popup desynchronization issue in grid-based layouts.
This issue stemmed from the popup index calculation apparently not
needing a division by the span count in order to produce the correct
index. This kind of makes sense, but is still really weird.
Resolves#230.
Add basic support for multiple genres.
This is sort of the test run for full multi-artist support, allowing me
to rework my abstractions to handle the presence of multiple parents.
This is nowhere near complete. For example, there is currently a stopgap
measure in the playback system that basically breaks genre playback.
It's a start though.
Make adapter instances handle span sizes.
This supercedes the hackier solution where the fragments would have to
reference adapter data in order to determine span size. Not anymore.
Make the playing indicator animate when playback is ongoing.
Previously state issues stopped me from doing this, but apparently this
time I miraculously got it working. Yay.

Revert the song menu in the playback panel to being in the toolbar.
It was mostly inconsistent and cause a lot of truncation. I'll figure
out what I want to do when I implement liked songs.
Add a fast scroller to the queue view.
This is actually easy to implement without disruption. Now the detail
view is the only view without such a fast scroller, as it needs more
reworks for it to be feasible.
Switch position math to rely on deciseconds (1/10th of a second)
instead of full seconds.
This makes seeking and position management much smoother, with minimal
performance cost. In the future I may try to migrate the playback state
so that the position calculations are done on the UI end, but this
works for now.
Make the thumb visible if a popup provider is found later.
Fixes an issue where the fast scroll thumb would only be visible
sometimes in the home view.
Make PlaybackService handle delayed actions.
I wanted to do this before, but technical limitations always
stopped me from doing so. Turns out all I needed was a dash
of global mutable state to make it all work. This is actually
really good, as it separates concerns better and paves the way
for future improvements to the service.
Make the shape of the play/pause buttons throughout the app morph from
a circle if paused to a square if playing.
Android 13 seemingly does this to their play/pause button, so we copy
it too.
Tangentally related to #162.
Do not check for the version when managing the notification.
Some OEMs will update the android system, causing the version number to
change, but will THEN not update the system UI, completely breaking my
compat hacks. Because you know. Reasons. Fix this by always applying
future and obsolete methods of updating the media notification
regardless of the context.
Resolves#219.
Migrate MediaSessionComponent to android 13.
This was primarily implementing custom actions with the media session
and adding some extra bug fixes that I was already planning. I was
really hoping that google fixes the nightmarish mess that was the
previous MediaStyle notification, where I had to update the session
and then the notification in a tight dance with clever tricks to not
get rate-limited, but nope. I still have to do exactly the same thing
as beforehand, but with even extra insanity due to the custom actions.
Work aroudn an issue in Android 13 where bitmap pooling would not work
correctly and reduce our max memory limit by ~10x.
When I mean work around, I mean that we reduce the size of the rounded
covers further to ensure we aren't hitting the memory limit. This also
sadly blocks us from further RemoteViews instances, as the bugged
memory size will continue to increase if we do that.
FINALLY upgrade to android 13.
I cannot believe it had to take until the release of the version to
finally update the SDK version, but of course it had to. For some
insane reason that I have no idea why it passed QA, the 33 SDK had
a crippling issue where attributes were not recognized. The only
way to fix this was to:
1. Upgrade to the newer studio version (Chipmunk Patch 2)
2. Upgrade to AGP 7.3.0-beta05.
Funny thing though. AGP 7.3.0 IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH CHIPMUNK. Okay,
so we can upgrade to Dolphin then and then we can use AGP, right?
HAHAHA NOPE! Dolphin hasn't patched out the XML issue yet despite
every other release channel having a release on August 3rd. Did
some engineer at google just forget to make a release? What?
Okay, so I guess I'm forced to use Electric Eel, the UNSTABLE CANARY
VERSION that IS FILLED WITH BUGS. But oh wait, Electric Eel doesn't
like AGP 7.3.0 EITHER! It wants AGP 7.4.0, which IS ALSO IN ALPHA.
So, I'm forced to use the ALPHA studio and the ALPHA AGP version just
to use the android 13 SDK in a way that is not completely unbearable.
The android SDK, everyone.
(This is not a cry for help, I just want to write down my infinite
frustration with this stupid goose chase somewhere)
Auxio tried to leverage built-in android string attributes for Ok and
Cancel while still completing them for other translations that were not
supported by the OS.
Turns out this was a terrible idea when I switched to Weblate, which
has no knowledge of this trick and could lead to a misleading
translation value. Remove it.

Move all menu functionality from long-click to a menu button.
This is in preparation for #93, as I need to free up the long-click
for a selection option. The spacing isn't really consistent at all,
but that's because I wanted to make something that looks right
depending on the context.
Re-add the song menu option to the title section of the playback view.
This is again, due to the addition of the equalizer button, but also to
make this menu easier to reach.
Replace the song options button in the playback menu with a button that
opens the equalizer.
I plan to re-introduce the song options in another location.
Remove the "Off" ReplayGain setting, as it is mostly meaningless.
Users who don't want ReplayGain can remove the tags from their files.
No efficiency benefits either since the audio processor is always
disabled without replaygain tags. It is better not to confuse users
who do have ReplayGain but wonder why it is not working on their
files because the setting is off.
